Parts of LI Expressway to Close for Bridge Work

State Department of Transportation said Wednesday that there will be full overnight closures beginning Thursday night on the Long Island Expressway through the Town of Huntington.

On Thursday, the eastbound LIE will be closed at exit 49S (State Route 110) between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Friday.  On Friday, October 18, the westbound L.I.E. will then be closed at exit 49N (State Route 110) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday.

Starting Monday,  both directions of the LIE will be closed weeknights (Mondays through Fridays) beginning at 10 p.m. until 5 a.m.

During these closures, all traffic will be rerouted onto the service roads.  Access to the westbound LIE will also be closed from northbound Route 110 during all westbound night closings.

These closures are expected to continue for approximately six weeks, though could be affected by inclement weather.

Crews will be working on the $28.2 million Walt Whitman Road Bridge Replacement Project, which is constructing a new wider overpass that will feature additional lanes with sidewalks and shoulders for bicyclists on both sides of the bridge.
