Huntington voters will be making history Saturday when they head to the polls nine days before Election Day.

Candidates are running for positions on the county and town level. In addition to choosing a county executive between Republican challenger John Kennedy and Democratic incumbent Steve Bellone, Huntington voters will cast ballots for a Suffolk County legislator, town clerk, town receiver of taxes and choose among five candidates for two spots on the Town Board.

Incumbent Jillian Guthman, Democrat, and Republican challenger Stacy Colamussi are competing for town receiver of taxes.

State Assemblyman Andrew Raia, a Republican, and Democrat Simon Saks are battling for the job of town clerk.

The five candidates for Town Board include incumbents Joan Cergol and Gene Cook, while Democrat Kathleen Cleary, Republican Andre Sorrentino and libertarian Patrick Deegan are seeking to join the board.

In county races, Dr. William Spencer, a Democrat, is facing challenger Garrett Chelius, a Republican, in the 18th District, Tom Donnelly takes on Dr. Rebecca Lonardo  in the 17th District and Susan Berland, a Democrat, faces  Republican challenger Hector Gavilla in the 16th.

New York State has become the 39th state in the country to permit pre-Election Day voting. Early voting runs from Saturday through Nov. 3, breaks Monday Nov. 4, and then polling opens again on Election Day.

While voters can use any voting place in the county, the Dix Hills Fire Department at 115 East Deer Park Road, Dix Hills, will serve as a polling place for Huntington residents.
