Early voting opens Saturday and runs nine days for the Aug. 23 Republican primary for the First Congressional District.
The campaign for the newly drawn district has been fierce, complete with charges of stolen election signs, accusations that one candidate is really a Democratic supporter and recently bought a house in Maryland, and claims and counter claims about donors and polls.
Competing for the Republican nomination are Nick LaLota, who is the endorsed candidate, Anthony M Figliola, and Michelle Bond. LaLota and Bond have been trading punches over who best represents Republican values.
The Huntington party has said of Bond,
Can you imagine having the nerve to announce your candidacy to represent Long Island residents in Congress when you haven’t lived on Long Island for two decades?
Not only is Michelle Bond a fake Republican, she recently arrived on Long Island to buy Lee Zeldin’s open seat in Congress with Democrat money after living and working for two decades in the DC swamp.
Bond, in the meantime, has been claiming the endorsements of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, the Suffolk County Police Conference, and Ric Grenell, the former director of national intelligence in the Trump Administration, among others.
The Huntington Republican Party is also urging “vigilant Republican voters” to sign up to be poll workers and to watch over voting machines overnight at the early voting sites to “ensure they remain secure when not in use.”
