East Northport Strip Plaza Renovation Nearly Complete

The owner of Northport Plaza is paving the way to a first class retail experience. But right now the massive rehab project is simply a suburban obstacle course as it remains open throughout a multifaceted, year-long renovation.

It’s a well-trafficked strip plaza along one of the Town of Huntington’s busiest intersections. More than 32,000 cars pass through the busy intersection at Elwood Road and Jericho Turnpike each day. Defining its northeastern edge is 30,000-square-foot Northport Plaza, which does triple duty as home to a library along with an eclectic mix of businesses and sometimes serving as a passthrough for impatient drivers.

Construction began in September 2017 and is down to the final phase of work, according to several tenants. Repaving the parking lot is expected to wrap up next week.

Northport Plaza, located at 1941 Jericho Turnpike in East Northport, is the beating heart of Elwood. That’s right, Northport Plaza is in East Northport and has been home to Elwood Public Library since 2008. There’s no identity crisis if you live nearby. It just is.

The shopping center is also home to Elwood Wines and Liquors, Karako Suits, TCBY, Bagel Boss, Renarts and a new tenant, TD Bank, according to New York-based Ripco Real Estate LLC. There’s room for two more tenants with 1,200- and 6,000-square-foot spaces available. Once construction work is complete, locals will have a new experience to compete with Elwood Shopping Center across the street.
