Elwood Names New Superintendent

The Elwood Board of Education named Dr. Gayle Steele as its new superintendent Thursday.

Steele, a well-regarded assistant superintendent in South Huntington, will succeed Kelly Fallon, who has served in the job on an interim basis since last summer after Dr. Kenneth Bossert resigned to become superintendent in Great Neck.

She has held a variety of positions in other districts, including Half Hollow Hills,  Valley Stream, Elmont, and Brooklyn.

In South Huntington, she served as principal of Maplewood Intermediate School before becoming  assistant to the superintendent and then assistant superintendent for elementary education.

in Half Hollow Hills, she served as assistant principal at Sunquam Elementary School
