Eva Casale to Run 7 Marathons in 7 Days for Veterans

Runner Eva Casale and local officials announced Thursday that she will launch her seven marathons in seven days next week from Huntington.

This is the fourth year in a row that Casale, senior vice president of  information technology for Suffolk Federal Credit Union, will run  more than 184 miles in one week  to raise funds and awareness for a cause  to honor troops,  local veterans and the fallen.

From April 27-May 3, Casale will lead the appropriately-named Team E.V.A. for every mile during what she calls the “Every Veteran Appreciated” Week. Each marathon Casale finishes will be focused on honoring local servicemen killed in action and will be linked to their home communities.

This year’s marathons will launch April 27 at the Huntington Elks Lodge #1565.  From there the team will begin their marathons in Centerport, Commack, Northport, LI National Cemetery, Eisenhower Park, Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, Calverton, Westhampton, Oyster Bay, Bayville, Glen Cove, Brookhaven, Patchogue, Medford and Long Island’s South Shore.   Closing ceremonies will take place at Copiague Fire Department as she and her team complete the final marathon.

The announcement came at a press conference at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, where buglers played taps, Casale and others laid flowers, and several local officials praised her for her work to help veterans. Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci, Northport Deputy Mayor Tom Kehoe, Suffolk Legislator Susan Berland, Town Historian Robert Hughes and others participated in the ceremony.
