Ex-Halesite Firefighter to Pitch Business on TV’s Shark Tank

A former Halesite firefighter will appear on Shark Tank Friday night to pitch her company, Fitfighter, a strength- training system that has been deployed at firehouses and businesses.

Sarah Apgar, who lives and runs her business in Port Washington, developed the system to strengthen firefighters for their jobs. Apgar, a mother of two, is a veteran of the US Army, having served a tour in Iraq.

Her equipment is inspired by her work as a Halesite firefighter and EMT. She noted in an interview in Patch in 2014 that “There are a number of injuries in fire departments,”  including musculoskeletal, that might conditioning might reduce  Some firefighter deaths are triggered by heart attacks or exertion.

Shark Tank is a reality business TV series where entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to five investors, known as sharks, in hopes of winning their financial support and guidance. The program airs at 8 p.m. on ABC.
