Excessive Heat to Continue; Slight Chance of Rain

A slight chance of rain is predicted for Saturday afternoon and evening, as excessive heat continues to hang over the area. But the rain is unlikely to bring down temperatures, the National Weather Service said Saturday.

The Coltrane festival gets underway at Heckscher Park, from noon until 10 p.m., despite the heat.

The heat index, which combines humidity and actual temperature to produce what humans feel, topped 100 degrees at 11 a.m.
