Some Service Restored After Utility Line Snarls LIRR

2nd Update
The Long Island Rail Road said Monday night that PSEGLI crews have secured and removed the downed power lines in Hicksville.  LIRR personnel are in the process of restoring service between Mineola and Hicksville. Eastbound trains are operating through the area w from Penn to Huntington.

UPDATE:

LIRR has established limited shuttle train service between Babylon and Hicksville
via the Central Branch. Customers can transfer at Hicksville for limited eastbound
service to Huntington/Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma. Due to the limited nature of
this service, we recommend that customers traveling east of Mineola consider
alternate branches including Babylon or Montauk branches.

Service was suspended on the Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma and and Oyster Bay branches Monday after a utility line fell on the tracks west of Hicksville.

“We are in close communication with PSEGLI. They have informed us that they will need
several hours to secure & remove the downed power lines in Hicksville,” the LIRR said. “After that, LIRR will need to assess for track/signal damage. We continue to recommend that customers use alternate branches including the Babylon, Hempstead, Montauk and Port Washington branches.”

LIRR passengers were angry on Twitter. Several used unprintable language.

Commutes like today’s make me really miss the bar carts on the Jamaica platform.

Come on !!! Can’t we have a quick remedy plan for wires across the track scenario?!?! Maybe a direct line at maybe?!?!?! Please let me run this for you!

“Gotta love the and raising fares when the service is this terrible and backlogged

Need air! Train is fully packed and no stops until Hicksville is not a good idea. People cant stand that long, many may fainted?
