Family Service League Gets Opioid Grant

Family Service League has been selected to receive federal funding through the Opioid State Targeted Response Grant to expand critical initiatives to combat the opioid crisis.

The funding will be used to enhance and increase community prevention and recovery services in an effort to reduce unmet needs and overdose-related deaths.

“FSL is actively engaged in providing all Suffolk County residents with educational resources to help prevent addiction and supporting extensive treatment efforts with quality healthcare,” said Karen Boorshtein, FSL president and CEO. “These critical services offer access to recovery programs that help people live better and healthier lives.”

FSL’s new Mobile Recovery Center (MRC) is a New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) designated Center of Treatment Innovation.

The MRC team, which includes physicians, registered nurses, and social workers, respond to the individual or family in their home, place of employment, school; and, when applicable, diverts the use of hospitals and emergency rooms.

The MRC model of care provides comprehensive substance abuse and mental health assessments, diagnosis, and medication management in coordination with the development of a treatment plan that includes linkage to appropriate aftercare.
