Family Welcomes 4th Generation Born at Huntington Hospital

For the Capras, Huntington Hospital is more than a birthplace – it’s a birth rite.

Starting with Jean Mortensen in May 1921 and Robert Capra in December of the same year, a female relative from the Mortensen family and a male ancestor from the Capra clan have been born at Huntington Hospital over the course of four generations.

Kylie Rose Capra continued the family tradition when she was welcomed into the world at Huntington Hospital on Monday, August 6, to proud parents Elizabeth Capra and Robert Capra III.

“I’m a sentimental person and it’s so special to have a nurse who went to high school with you help with your delivery and be part of this momentous occasion,” said Ms. Capra, who was born at the hospital in 1982.

Ms. Capra even elected to switch obstetricians when she became pregnant the third time to ensure that Kylie would also be a Huntington Hospital baby. That brought her to Mitchell Kramer, MD, chairman of ob/gyn at the hospital.

“Having worked at Huntington Hospital for 29 years, it has been very special to care for multiple members of a family and especially to be part of a legacy such as the Capras,” Dr. Kramer said.

Huntington Hospital’s maternity center has recently expanded, providing mothers with spacious, private rooms with en suite bathrooms. Couplet care, or having the same nurse care for both the mother and baby, is also a mainstay at the hospital that fosters better bonding as well as successful breastfeeding.

Gerard Brogan, Jr., MD, executive director of Huntington Hospital, noted, “Between the cutting-edge care we provide coupled with the highly-skilled physicians and our four-time-Magnet-designation-winning nurses, there are many reasons for families to choose to deliver their children at Huntington Hospital.”

Huntington Hospital marked its 100th anniversary of caring for the community in 2016. The eldest Mortensen and Capra family members were delivered in the hospital’s original brick building, which is near the front entrance.
