Fans and Families Welcome Home Wildcats

Walt Whitman’s football team arrived back home in Huntington Station Friday after its last-second loss to Massapequa, 38-35 for the Long Island championship.

The Wildcats won the Suffolk title last week.

Players disembarked from their buses to the sound of car horns, sirens from the escorting firetrucks from the Huntington Manor Fire Department, and cheers and applause from waiting fans. Some players were teary-eyed, while others remained stoic as the crowd greeted them. In the crowd, several spoke of getting started on rebuilding the team next year.

They finished the season 11-1.
