Lupinacci Says Town Will Sign Farmers Market Contract

More than 600 people have signed a petition to ensure the operation of a farmers’ market in downtown Huntington, calling on Town Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci to sign its contract.

But the supervisor said Tuesday that the contract is being prepared and he plans to sign  it when it is ready.

The Long Island Growers Market has operated in Huntington for more than 20 years, and sets up in the municipal parking lot on the south side of Main Street.

Ethel Terry set up the petition after growing frustrated that the contract hadn’t been signed.

“We provide free fruits and vegetables to seniors and families in need at our Huntington market through our contract with the New York State (NYS) Department of Agriculture. Our customers would be very upset if this contract was not signed by the Town of Huntington and they couldn’t buy our local all natural products,” the petition reads.
