Festival, Cleanups to Celebrate Earth Day

Saturday is Earth Day, and groups around Huntington will be spending time celebrating the environment and cleaning up their neighborhoods.

First up, the Centerport Harbor Association has organized a spring cleaning starting at 9:30 a.m. for the harbor and Mill Pond. Volunteers will meet at Heron Park, at Centershore Road and Mill Dam, pick up trashbags and be assigned an area to clean up. Work clothes, including gloves, are recommended.

The Town of Huntington’s family Earth Day celebration will have a wide range of activities and features, including e-waste and medication disposal, a marine touch tank, music, paper shredding, arts and crafts and more. Sponsored by Council members Joan Cergol and Sal Ferro, the celebration runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Manor Farm Park, 210 Manor Road, Huntington.

From  2-4 p.m., the 13th annual cleanup of Huntington Station will get underway, with Happy Helpers and Huntington Station Latin Quarter, starting at 1399 New York Ave., at the law offices of Xavier Palacios.

The Greenlawn Civic Association is hosting a cleanup along Broadway, from the Harborfields Public Library down to the corner of Broadway and Cuba Hill Road and includes trash & recycling pick up, sweeping sidewalks, and cleaning & mulching flower beds. From 12-4 p.m. Signup.

The weather is expected to be less than perfect but manageable–patchy fog before 11 a.m., but no rain until after 5 p.m.
