Festivities to Mark Family Earth Day

Huntington will be marking Earth Day Saturday with a festivities that include music, giveaways, and interactive entertainment.

Council members Joan Cergol and Sal Ferro are sponsoring the free Family Earth Day festivities, scheduled for 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Manor Farm Park, 210 Manor Road.

Activities and displays include a wild animal exhibit, composting, beekeepiing and English ivy removal demonstrations, face painting, arts and crafts booths for kids and more.

Storage Quarters Record Management will offer free drive-thru paper shredding services of up to two bankers boxes of documents per person. In addition, the Town’s Department of Environmental Waste Management and the Suffolk County Police Department will provide disposal sites for e-waste and unwanted pill medications.

Attendees will receive a door prize ticket for items such as t-shirts, electric-powered lawn equipment, a rain barrel, sports tickets, and gift cards to a number of local businesses around the Town of Huntington. The Town’s
Department of Planning will also be giving out free tree saplings to all who are interested and radio station 106.1 BLI will be on site for the event with games and giveaways.

“After the success of last year’s event, we wanted to go even bigger in 2023,” Cergol said. “Thank you to all of our generous sponsors for helping us create a joyous, educational, and inspiring celebration of our beautiful planet.”

“When each of us finds small ways to be responsible stewards of the environment, it adds up to big changes,”  Ferro said. “Our Earth Day festivities are just another way to get residents thinking about how they can
make a positive impact.”

Covanta, Huntington Hospital Northwell Health, Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce, the 1653 Foundation, and Cox Media Group-Long Island are also sponsoring the event.
