Hundreds of runners came out in the rain for a chance to honor Cpl. Christopher Scherer in the 15th and final I Did the Grid run.
Dog tags of service members killed in war hung from a portable wall; veterans raised their hands in salute and runners rang a bell in the service members’ honor as they crossed the finish line. Each runner wore a bib listing four service members who have been killed in battle.
Runners of all ages joined in the competitive or non-competive races or the one-mile family run. As the first race in the Suffolk County Veterans Run Series, it drew runners looking to complete the entire series.
