Fire Chief Brings Crews to Put Out Blaze in His Neighborhood

Jon Hoffmann was in the right place, at the right time, Friday afternoon.

The Huntington Manor Fire Department chief was raking leaves at his house when he spotted a fire at garage nearby. He dropped his rake, summoned help and led the effort by about 50 firefighters to put out the blaze near the intersection of Railroad Street and McKay Road.

Firefighters from Greenlawn, Huntington and Melville assisted. No one was injured.
