Church Hosts Food Packup to Help Needy

An ecumenical group of adults, teens and children  came together Monday at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cold Spring Harbor to act on the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,  packing up 20,000 meals for those in need.

The Right Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, Episcopal bishop of Long Island, said the church hosted the event for the second year but drew volunteers from around Long Island and Nassau County, including two rabbis and congregants from  Simchat HaLev in Syosset.

“It’s a wonderful day of service,” the Rev. Gideon Pollach, St. John’s rector, said. “It builds fellowship.

“Dr. King’s lacy, his work is still ongoing, as the need persists. Here we are committed to making a lasting contribution to the health and safety of Huntington and the North Shore region.”

The boxes of food will be delivered to the Interfaith Nutrition Network in Hempstead, which will distribute it to those in need of food assistance.
