Fort Salonga Woman Killed by Car Driven by Husband, Police Say

A Fort Salonga woman was struck and killed Monday morning by a car driven by her husband, Suffolk County police said.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating the motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of Nancy Richard. Police said that after walking her grandchild to a bus stop at about 7:30 a.m., she was returning to her home when she was struck by a 2015 Mercedes S550, driven by her husband, Peter Richard, who was backing out of their driveway.

Nancy Richard, 79, was transported to Huntington Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Peter Richard, 83, was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

Updated Tuesday at 12:18 p.m. Newsday and CBS identified Peter Richard as a member of the PC Richard & Son chain of stores, and the couple as philanthropists.
