Friends Gather to Sing Carols for Teen With Cancer

Friends and neighbors gathered Sunday night to sing Christmas carols to a  Huntington teen battling a rare cancer.

The event brought more than 200 people together at the home of Gabby Cava, 16, who was diagnosed in April 2018 with Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma.

The crowd gathered on the lawn and spilled out onto the street in front of the home, singing Silent Night, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Joy to the World and other songs, including Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

Family friend Patty Smith said the event came together in less than 24 hours, and included several Harborfields school district representatives as well as school friends.

The caroling was a surprise for the family. Gabby’s mother, Audra, greeted the crowd of singers and thanked them for coming.

She and her husband, Dave, ask for prayers for Gabby.
