Building Codes Proposal

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has proposed the Advanced Building Codes, Appliance and Equipment Efficiency Standards Act of 2021 to  strengthen the state’s building codes, improve energy and water efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The legislation was introduced along with a report submitted to the New York State Legislature from the New York State Energy and Research Authority and the State Department of State highlighting increased appliance energy efficiency standards.

Grants for Colleges

The state will provide $57.2 million in grants for capital projects at 35 colleges and universities across New York State through the Higher Education Capital Matching Grant Program.  The HECap awards support projects that provide increased training in health sciences through construction of new laboratory and research spaces, the purchase of new instructional technologies and medical equipment, and a variety of other capital investments and improvements. The investments are targeted to create jobs and opportunities in higher education and health care.

The funds were awarded at the March 12 meeting of the HECap Board, which provides matching grants to private, not-for-profit colleges and universities.
