Gaughran Wins Perfect Score From Environmental Group

State Senator Jim Gaughran earned a perfect score of 100 in the EPL/Environmental Advocates annual scorecard, which rates state legislators on their votes on environmental legislation.

Gaughran said “There is nothing as important as protecting our environment and ensuring our water sources are safe and protected for generations to come. I am proud that this year, the new Democratic Senate passed landmark legislation to protect Long Island’s sole source aquifer, including my bill to hold polluters accountable for contaminating our water supply. I look forward to continue fighting for funding for critical water quality projects and to ensuring Long Island’s sustainability for generations.”

Peter Iwanowicz, executive director of EPL/Environmental Advocates, said “Senator Gaughran played a big part in the greatest environmental legislative session in a generation, as his perfect score indicates. Long Islanders value clean air, clean water, and an environment that is cherished, not abused—it is clear from his record that Senator Gaughran is acting on those same values.”

EPL/Environmental Advocates was founded in 1969 as one of the first organizations in the nation to advocate for the future of a state’s environment and the health of its citizens.
