Update: Girl, 8, Injured by Van on New York Avenue

An 8-year-old girl was struck and injured by a van while crossing in front of 586 New York Ave., Saturday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.

The girl, who lives in Lloyd Harbor, was transported to Huntington Hospital ¬†by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad and then taken to Cohen Children’s Hospital for treatment of her serious injuries.

She was struck by a 1997 Ford van traveling south on New York Avenue. The driver of the van, Pedro Guerrero, of West Babylon was not injured/

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

New York Avenue is closed in both directions between Woodland Street  and Grandview Street.

No further information was immediately available.
