Update: Girl, 8, Injured by Van on New York Avenue

An 8-year-old girl was struck and injured by a van while crossing in front of 586 New York Ave., Saturday afternoon, Suffolk County police said.

The girl, who lives in Lloyd Harbor, was transported to Huntington Hospital  by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad and then taken to Cohen Children’s Hospital for treatment of her serious injuries.

She was struck by a 1997 Ford van traveling south on New York Avenue. The driver of the van, Pedro Guerrero, of West Babylon was not injured/

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

New York Avenue is closed in both directions between Woodland Street  and Grandview Street.

No further information was immediately available.
