It’s #GivingTuesday, a global campaign to raise money for nonprofits that assist people with food, housing, health, education and much more.
You can find local organizations to support by searching for #GivingTuesday; here’s a partial list of participating groups.
Townwide Fund: supports more than 30 organizations with emergency grants and funding
Tri CYA:The organization is trying to buy a van to take its program participants to events.
Junior Welfare League: Its Lift fund provides one-time grants for people in financial crisis and other programs.
South Huntington Educational Foundation
Brett’s Bicycle Recycle A grassroots organization dedicated to collecting, repairing and donating wheels to people in Huntington
Food pantries: Many religious organizations, student groups, businesses and nonprofits collect and donate to food pantries, which are experiencing high demand this year because of the Covid-19 economic downtown. Long Island Cares, which is itself participating in #Giving Tuesday, maintains a list of pantries, searchable by ZIP code and HuntingtonNow lists many on our calendar.
Whaling Museum: Through the rest of December, the Board of Trustees will double donations to help us reach the total goal of $20,000. Tax-deductible donations will help support a 84-year legacy of museum education.
Golden Paw Society: The all-volunteer organization takes in and adopts out shelter cats.
