Green Drop Opens Donation Site to Support Big Brothers Big Sisters

Officials cut the ceremonial ribbon Friday for the opening of the Green Drop trailer to accept donations of clothing and household items to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.

State Sen. Jim Gaughran, Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly, Town Supervisor Ed Smyth, Councilmen Dave Bennardo and Sal Ferro, and Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman were among those participating in the grand opening.

The trailer is set up in a parking lot at the Walt Whitman Shops, near Citibank, and will be staffed  seven days a week.

The Whitman trailer is the organization’s 40th collection site. The rest are in locations from New York to Virginia. Green Drop has partnered with a variety of organizations, including the Red Cross, the National Federation of the Blind, Society of St. Vincent dePaul and Military Order of the Purple Heart. It plans another site for Smith Haven Mall.
