Groups Donate to Food Banks

The Greater Long Island Running Club recently returned to Helping Hand Rescue Mission to drop off more than 1,000 pounds of foodstuffs and personal hygiene items, plus $1,000 in supermarket gift certificates.

This was GLIRC’s fourth visit to Huntington Station.To date, the GLIRC Food Drive has distributed more than 25,000 pounds of foodstuffs and personal hygiene items plus over $30,000 in supermarket Gift Cards, to food pantries and soup kitchens all over Long Island.

Rice Donation

The volunteers of SRLC-USA’s Long Island Center gathered March 6 to pack 10,000 pounds of rice to be donated to various places across Long Island and  help to feed over 33,000 people in need.

The hunger relief efforts by SRLC-USA were recognized by several town officials, including Supervisor  Chad Lupinacci and Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman.

In addition to Helping Hand Rescue Mission,  other beneficiaries of SRLC-USA Long Island Center’s rice donation included the following: The Center Point Church, the Long Island Council of Churches, the St. John of God Parish, the Gerald J Ryan Outreach Center, the Guru Nanak Darbar of Long Island, the Salvation Army of Freeport and Tri-CYA.
