Gusty Winds, Cold to Continue; HART Service Back

About 250 Huntington customers were without power Thursday morning after a gusty storm swept across Long Island. A winter storm watch remains in effect until Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service said that Thursday would remain mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. Blustery, with a north wind 14 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

PSEG-LI said the snow and winds took down trees across Long Island, but that it had restored power to more than 9,000 customers as of 5:15 a.m. Electric service crews worked through the night and will continue to work.

It said that while light snow normally doesn’t pose a  problem, high winds and heavy snow or ice on lines and trees can increase the possibility of downed wires and power outages. These conditions also make it difficult for our crews to get around.
