Happening This Week: Ribbon Cutting, Cleanups

Tuesday
Einstein’s Attic Huntington is having a ribbon cutting Tuesday, with an added twist: the public is invited to bring their own scissors and help cut the ribbon. The store is at 267 Main St., Huntington. Ribbon cutting at 5 p.m.; participants should arrive by 4:45 p.m.
Wednesday
The South Huntington Public Library is organizing a team of readers to compete against other libraries in a Battle of the Books. Readers entering grades 6-9 in September are invited to an introductory meeting on Wednesday.
Those who sign up for the competition will be asked to to read and memorize trivia from six pre-selected books to compete against the other  libraries. The actual battle will take place in early August. Come to this meeting to find out what it is all about! Registration is open. The meeting will run Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. at the library.
Friday
The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory will host Australian musicians Ziggy and Miles, in a concert from 6-7 p.m., followed by a reception.
Saturday
Friends of the Harborfields Library plan a craft and flea fair, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Featuring vendors of crafts, yard sale items, and more.
A paint & sip evening at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church in Northport will help raise funds for Northport Pridefest. The fundraiser runs from 7-9 p.m. See the flyer for more details.
It must be spring because it’s clean-up time.
On Saturday, Councilmembers Theresa Mari and Sal Ferro are leading a cleanup of the beach house and beach in Centerport, from 10 a.m.-noon.  Volunteers are welcome.
Also Saturday, volunteers will hit the streets of Huntington Station to beautify the hamlet. The cleanup gets going at 1 p.m. in front of 1399 New York Ave., Huntington Station. Volunteers invited.
Huntington Safe Boating Week gets underway Saturday with free vessel checks, followed Sunday by the Waterfront Festival at Mill Dam Park from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The festival includes vendor booths featuring professional artists, photography, handmade crafts, jewelry, clothing, antiques, gift items, recreational equipment, boats, boating supplies and more. Enjoy locally crafted brew at the beer tent and indulge in the food truck cuisines. Live bands. See the flyer for details of events throughout the week.
