Harborfields, Commack Residents Voting on School Bonds

Voters in the Harborfields and Commack school districts decide Tuesday on school bonds.

Commack residents will vote on a $67.6 million proposed bond to upgrade infrastructure at all eight district schools. Enhancements include secrutiy improvemenets, and upgrades to bathrooms, athletic fields, and air conditioning in large spaces.

Residents north of Jericho Turnpike will vote at Commack High School; those south of Jericho will vote at Commack Middle School, during the hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Both districts say the bonds will not result in tax increases.

In Harborfields, the proposed bond would cost about $20,407,453 but, the district said, taxes will decrease because of two expiring bonds.

The bond is to repair basic infrastructure, including outdated boilers, repairing cracked sidewalks, improving fresh air intake and replacing deteriorating ceiling and lighting fixtures, as well as enhance security features.

Voting will be conducted at Oldfield Middle School from 2-9 p.m.
