Hartz Breaks Ground on Melville Property

Officials broke ground Friday on the Hartz Mountain Industries distribution site in Melville.

Hartz bought the 53-acre former Newsday site in October 2018 for $54.5 million and plans two buildings on the site. The property at 235 Pinelawn Road is the company’s first project on Long Island.

Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci and Assemblyman Keith Brown, who represented the company at hearings before the town, spoke at the ceremony before the official groundbreaking.

Gus Milano, president of Hartz, said, “Hartz has the experience and the ingenuity to address an industry need on Long Island. Expanding our portfolio in this dynamic market will expand our real estate portfolio in a new and
evolving area. We are excited to undertake our first project in this exciting market, the first of what we hope will be many.”
