‘Hauntington’ Is Back for Halloween

The Huntington Town Board voted Wednesday night to again rename the town Hauntington for Halloween.

The town first made the change last year, following a request last year from then 7-year-old Angelica Cunningham. This year, the Town Board welcomed Angelica and her family, presenting her Wednesday with a proclamation as a reward for her idea.

Huntington will become Hauntington for one day, Thursday, Oct. 31.

The move wasn’t without opposition. At September’s meeting, Eric Yearwood, who identified himself as a bail bondsman and cultural anthropologist, said, “It’s been almost a year since town ceremonially changed its name in order to boost paranormal tourism. The spiritual and psychological fallout has proved disastrous.”
