Bleeding Control
Stony Brook Medicine will host an event to train people to control bleeding of those injured by accidents or violence. Civilians need basic training in bleeding control principles so they are able to provide immediate, frontline aid until first responders are able to take over care of an injured person. Due to many situations, there may be a delay between the time of injury and the time a first responder is on the scene. Just as bystander CPR/AED usage is encouraged, training civilian bystanders the skills and basic tools to stop uncontrolled bleeding in an emergency situation, can save lives.
The training is scheduled for Tuesday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Stony Brook Medicine Advanced Specialty Care Facility, 500 Commack Road, Commack. The event is free but registration is required.
Moving Over
Dr. Faisal Siddiqui is moving Tuesday from the NYU Langone Huntington Medical Center to the Perlmutter Cancer Center at 789 Park Ave.
He specializes in general surgery and breast surgery.
Medical Coding
South Huntington Public Library patrons can sign up for a course to learn about medical coding.
Participants will learn how to use the CPT manual and the ICD-10-CM to find medical codes for any disease, condition, treatment, or surgical procedure. This knowledge will help prepare people to work almost anywhere in the medical field—doctors’ offices, clinics, public health facilities, hospitals, labs, nursing homes or insurance agencies. Gale Courses provide a range of of interactive, instructor-led courses taken online. Courses are focused on professional development, technology skills, and personal enrichment. Courses run for six weeks and new sessions begin every month. A South Huntington library card is required.
Dolan Executive Joins Chamber Board
The senior administrative director of Greenlawn’s Dolan Family Health Center, Joseph T. Volavka, has been named to the board of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce.
Under Mr Volavka’s leadership, the DFHC has become a Patient Centered Medical Home; obtained ambulatory Joint Commission certification and accreditation; co-located behavioral health services with the Family Service League; been designated by New York State as a Breastfeeding Friendly Practice; added HIV services through a Ryan White Part C grant; created a comprehensive Health Home program; expanded its residency training program and expanded its hours of operation to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Dolan Family Health Center has been serving the Huntington community since 1995.
The mission of the DFHC is to provide high quality, comprehensive primary care to the
medically underserved community and serve as the entry point into the health care system for
individuals and families.
