Huntington Hospital Gala
Huntington Hospital will honor plastic surgeon James N. Romanelli at its gala on Nov. 30.
Romanelli, who grew up in Cold Spring Harbor, began practicing at Huntington Hospital in the 1990s. He served as the hospital’s chief of surgery from 2000 to 2012 and is currently the hospital’s chief of staff.
Romanelli has performed pro bono surgeries for children with congenital issues and feels a real sense of purpose and satisfaction in helping these children.
“Jim’s contributions to Huntington Hospital and, most notably, the many children he has changed the lives of through his pro bono work, are why we are excited to have this opportunity to honor him,” said Gerard Brogan, Jr., MD, executive director of Huntington Hospital.
As a member of the hospital’s medical board, Dr. Romanelli has seen Huntington Hospital bloom from community hospital to comprehensive medical center as part of the Northwell Health system.
“Huntington Hospital is the safety net for our families when they become ill or experience a medical crisis,” Dr. Romanelli said. “With all of the different subspecialty physicians and medical teams available at the hospital, there is no longer a need to travel for care. That’s why although there are many worthy charitable causes, Huntington Hospital is an extraordinary resource in our area that is deserving of all of the philanthropic aid we can give.”
After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with honors, Romanelli attended medical school at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. Then, followed six years of training in general surgery and hand surgery, after which Romanelli undertook plastic surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. At Baylor, he trained with the inventors of the original silicone gel breast implant as well as many of the “founding fathers” of cosmetic plastic surgery.
