Responding to the continuing heat wave forecast for the next several days, Huntington Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci Thursday announced extended hours for the Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park at Elwood Park and the Dix Hills Park Pool.
Thursday’s rain has also forced the cancellation of the fireworks at the Huntington Manor Fire Department fair. The fair itself will still go on.
Meanwhile, Thursday’s planned readings by local authors at Melville’s Arboretum Park is canceled because of rain. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday, August 6 at 6 p.m.
The spray park extended hours are:
· Friday, July 19: 11 AM to 8 PM (Usual hours due to camp programming at the park)
· Saturday, July 20: 9 AM to 8 PM
· Sunday, July 21: 9 AM to 8 PM
The recreational ID card requirement will be waived for the weekend, though town residents must show photo ID proving residence.
“In these severe summer temperatures, I encourage all of our residents to stay cool, indoors with your air conditioning on, and stay hydrated,” Lupinacci said. “Please check on elderly neighbors and keep pets indoors. The Town has facilities where you can keep cool and we have extended hours at our Dix Hills Park Pool and the Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park at Elwood Park for this Saturday and Sunday, weather-permitting.”
