PSEG-LI said it is getting ready for potentially gusty winds, rain and wet snow now through Wednesday. Gusts could hit 48 mph, damaging tree limbs and possibly interrupting power supplies.

“We continue to monitor the track of the storm and are preparing accordingly,” said Michael Sullivan, vice president of Transmission and Distribution at PSEG Long Island. “We have performed system and logistic checks, and have a full complement of personnel who can jump into storm mode if needed. The forecast for our area is not as severe as the areas north of us. However, in the event of any outages, our crews will work to safely restore service as quickly as conditions will allow.”

The MTA said the Long Island Rail Road will position crews and diesel locomotives to minimize service disruptions.  Extra personnel will be added  through the overnight hours to identify and address possible track, signal and power challenges caused by flooding, washouts, downed trees and other potential storm damage. Personnel will survey and clear drainage areas where necessary, fortify key locations and look for trees requiring removal as well as any track structures requiring attention, the utility said.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels will ban empty tractor-trailers and tandem trucks beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Rain and snow are expected before 11 am, Tuesday, until at least 2 p.m. Wind chill values should fall between 25 and 30, with wind gusts as high as 33 mph.  New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible in this area.
