Henry Schein Cares Seeks Applications for Medal Program

Henry Schein is accepting applications for its fourth annual l Henry Schein Cares Medal program, which honors nonprofit organizations from the fields of oral health and medicine that demonstrate excellence in expanding access to care for the underserved. The application deadline is  Oct. 10.

The Henry Schein Cares Medal is an initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility program. Through Henry Schein Cares, the company supports health care professionals around the world who provide care for those who would otherwise receive little or no medical attention.

“Team Schein is pleased to open the application process for the fourth annual Henry Schein Cares Medal as we seek to honor the health care professionals and organizations who embody our commitment to ‘helping health happen’,” said Stanley M. Bergman, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Henry Schein.

A panel of judges from the medical, philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, and business sectors will select three finalists among applicants from the fields of oral health and medicine. Each finalist will receive a $10,000 cash award through the Henry Schein Cares Foundation.

“The Henry Schein Cares Medal is a great way to honor these organizations for their outstanding work and support them in their efforts to positively impact the health of their communities,” said Jennifer Kim Field, vice president, corporate social responsibility for Henry Schein, and executive director, Henry Schein Cares Foundation. “Our company has long championed health care providers who dedicate their efforts to expanding access to care, and we encourage eligible organizations to apply for the Henry Schein Cares Medal today.”

How to Apply

To be considered a candidate for this award, applicants must be a nonprofit organization or trust that is tax-exempt under IRS Section 501(c)(3) and that is a public charity. The applicant should demonstrate that the program has expanded access to health care for the underserved in a novel and innovative way that is measurable and quantifiable. Emphasis will be placed on expanding access to health care for children (birth to age 18), although all efforts to expand access to care will be considered.

Programs also should:

  • involve an established multi-disciplinary team that demonstrates the expertise needed for a comprehensive solution to expand access to care;
  • demonstrate potential for replication and large-scale impact through data and measurement; and
  • include a business plan or demonstration of financial sustainability.

Finalists will be announced in February 2019, and the medals will be awarded at a date and location to be determined in 2019.
