A Hindu temple in Melville will host a state Covid-19 vaccination pop-up site Friday.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said that 12 community sites around New York State will vaccinate than 4,000 residents. The host sites–public housing developments, churches, community centers, schools and fire stations– will reach out to their community to identify those eligible and schedule appointments.
Each will offer second doses in three weeks.
Moving forward as the federal vaccine supply increases, New York will continue to establish these sites at all 33 NYCHA Senior Housing Developments, which house more than 7,600 seniors.
“Reaching underserved communities across the state is critical to a vaccination strategy that serves all New Yorkers, and community-based pop-up sites bring the vaccine directly to those who have been hardest hit by the virus,” Cuomo said.
The temple, BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Temple, will offer the vaccines from 8 a.m.-noon.
