Hindu Temple Walk Aids Family Service League, Nature Conservancy

More than 800 Long Islanders joined the BAPS Charities Walk Green this weekend in Melville to benefit the Nature Conservancy.

Members of the Hindu temple Baps Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, local political leaders, Huntington residents and others participated in the walk, part of an international effort to protect the environment and plant trees. 

During the last four years, BAPS Charities Walkathons have helped plant a
total of 361,000 trees. The walk also benefited the Family Service League.Among those attending were Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Huntington Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci, State Assemblyman Andrew Raia, State Assemblyman Steve Stern, NY State Senator James Gaughran, Inspector William Scrima, commander of the Suffolk County Police Second Precinct, Huntington Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman, Suffolk County Legislator Susan Berland, communication manager at Newsday Media Group Kim Grabina-Como, Highway Superintendent Kevin S. Orelli, and representatives from The Nature Conservancy and Family Service
League.

The Melville temple said that through participation in events and fundraising activities like the walkathon, participants are actively engaged in conversations and actions around sustainability and conservation.
