It’s homecoming weekend for several school districts, with some adding carnivals, parades, fireworks and other events added to the football game lineup.
South Huntington, whose team plays Patchogue-Medord on Saturday, has expanded its celebrations, inviting the community to join in Friday afternoon at Whitman High School, with carnival games, inflatable rides, a petting zoo, and performers from Zabo’s Circus, before the annual bonfire and the Powder Puff football game.at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, the Whitman band will lead a parade at 4 p.m. out onto the streets, going from West Hills Road, then east on Jericho Turnpike to Collins Place to Peachtree Lane and back to West Hills and the school. The game starts at 6 p.m., and for the first time, will be followed by a fireworks show.
Cold Spring Harbor
Cold Spring Harbor has lined up music, food, and games, a petting zoo, facepainting and other activities stasrting at 4:30 p.m. before the Seahawks football team plays Seaford at 7 p.m. Also scheduled is the boys varsity soccer against West Hempstead and varsity girls tennis against Port Washington, also at 5 p.m.
All district students are invited to walk through the Seahawk tunnel with members of the cheerleading squad, before the introduction of the football team. Third to sixth graders are invited to play flag football on the turf at halftime.
Half Hollow Hills
West hosts Rocky Point Saturday at 1 p.m.; East hosts Bellport at 1:30 p.m. In honor of the homecomings, the district posted photos from past celebrations.
