Homeless Man Accused of Burglarizing St. Hugh’s

A homeless man was charged with burglarizing St. Hugh of Lincoln early Tuesday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Julio Lebron broke a stained glass window at Saint Hugh of Lincoln, t 21 East 9th St., entered and stole cash and checks at 2:35 a.m., Suffolk police said, and later boarded a westbound train toward Penn Station.

MTA police officer Christopher Guastamacchia, who was off-duty, saw him  about 5:30 a.m. and thought Lebron was acting suspiciously. The officer notified his supervisor and partner, who met them in Penn Station.

Upon further investigation, police determined that Lebron was responsible for the church burglary.

Second Squad detectives charged Lebron, 48, with third-degree burglary. He is being held overnight at the Second Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
