Fire Damages 8th Avenue House

A home on 8th Avenue was severely damaged Thursday night when a fire broke out in the basement.

The Huntington Manor Fire Department fought the fire for about 30 minutes. The department said the fire traveled up the walls from the basement.

The Greenlawn and Huntington departments helped fight the fire, and the Huntington Community First Aid Squad was on scene to assist.

Melville Fire Department provided a fire standby at HMFD headquarters. Suffolk Police and Town of Huntington fire marshals were on scene to determine the cause of the fire, which is not considered suspicious. There were no reported injuries.

Chief of Department Jon Hoffmann was in charge of the scene assisted by Assistant Chiefs Glidden and Christen.
