How To: Report an Abandoned Vehicle

They can be annoying: vehicles left on the street for days or weeks, often showing damage or bearing signs of neglect.

The Town of Huntington has procedures for residents who want to report such vehicles.

A vehicle can be investigated as abandoned if it is on a Town roadway, Town right-of-way or Town property (municipal lot, Town beach, Town park, etc.) and it is either not legally registered, inspected or insured to be on that location. Or, if the town recognizes that a legally registered, inspected and insured vehicle has not been moved from the location for more than four consecutive days.

Residents wanting to report such vehicles can submit the exact location of the vehicle and nearest cross street along with any pertinent information to the Town of Huntington Abandoned Vehicle Bureau by email to [email protected] or by calling 631-351-3234.

Pertinent information may include information such as the license plate if any, the make, model and color of the vehicle.
