High Arts Showcases XV, the arts in education JOURNEY program student art show at the Huntington Arts Council, will be on display starting next week through June 1 at the Main Street Gallery.
The High Arts Showcase is a part of the JOURNEY Arts in Education Program, a program established in 1985 that integrates cultural arts into classroom curriculums, encouraging an individualized experience and appreciation of cultural diversity through the arts.
Starting on May 10, artwork and performance art from junior and senior high school students in Huntington town will be showcased at the gallery – free admission for anyone who would like to attend.
“The talent that runs throughout these young adults is extraordinary,” said Marc Courtade, executive director. “I encourage you to join us for both receptions and experience it first hand… The Huntington Arts Council is a firm believer in encouraging and nurturing the artist in all of us beginning at a young age.”
This year JOURNEY partner school districts are Cold Spring Harbor, Commack, Harborfields, Huntington, Northport-East Northport, Plainview-Old Bethpage and South Huntington. It is recognizing both visual and performance art from junior and senior high school students who participated.
On Friday, May 10, 2019 from 6-8 p.m., the arts council is hosting a reception for the Visual Art portion of this exhibit, featuring a wide range of work across various media forms such as oil, watercolor, digital photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, fabric and collage.
On Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m., the performance art portion, with a selection of live performances in the gallery, will be showcased. Performances will consist of dance, poetry, solo and small group musical performances of both original music and that of other artists. Both events will be held at the Main Street Gallery.
