Update 6:11pm The Town of Huntington boarded up a house in Huntington Station Friday that had been the subject of numerous complaints about criminal and other bad behavior.
Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci said the town took the action against 50 Teed St. after Suffolk police issued an arrest warrant for illegal occupants.
The Town Board held a public hearing in May 11, during which the Town Board designated the property as a nuisance, authorizing the Town to remedy any blight issues and charge the cost of remediation as a lien against the property owner’s tax bill.
Police and the Department of Public Safety have responded to various reports, by residents, of code violations over the past several months while a law enforcement investigation into criminal activity was underway. In January, the two-family house was hit by more than 40 bullets from three guns in what Suffolk County police said was a drive-by shooting. Neighbors repeatedly complained about speeding cars visiting the property, trash and unsafe conditions at the home. After the January shooting, police said an increase in gun violence was attributable to a dispute between gangs.
Update: Suffolk County Police arrested Isharray Herring for unlawfully staying at the home from June 19, 2020 to July 2, 2021. She was charged with Criminal Trespass 2nd, Degree.
