Huntington Celebrates Its Unity, Diversity

Marchers and floats from around Huntington joined the Huntington Awareness Day/Unity parade and fair this weekend.

Bands and marchers from several schools, including Harborfields, Elwood, Huntington and South Huntington paraded down Oakwood Road to the fair at Stimson Middle School where honorees were recognized for their contributions to the community.

The Whaling Museum showed off its model of a whale, while Brett’s Bicycle Recycle donated several refurbished bikes to kids, while other youngsters enjoyed the food and a bounce house. The League of Women Voters was on hand to encourage voter registration, and the American Legion Post 1244 handed out poppies to remember those lost to war.

Participating in the ceremony were several local and county officials, and school representatives. The celebration was co-sponsored by Dee Thompson and the South Huntington school district.
