Huntington Designates Cooling Centers Against Heat Wave

As the heat wave continues this week, the Town of Huntington is extending lifeguard and operational hours at certain town facilities to help residents stay cool..

Supervisor Ed Smyth has designated various Town of Huntington facilities as cooling centers for  residents for the duration of the heat wave on Wednesday and Thursday.

Town  beaches will have extended lifeguard protection until 7:00 PM for the duration of the heatwave. More information on Town beaches can be found at huntingtonny.gov/beaches

And spray parks will remain open longer.

“Feel free to cool off at any one of our Town of Huntington cooling centers this Wednesday and Thursday,” said Supervisor Ed Smyth. “Remember to stay hydrated during this extreme heat, check on homebound neighbors, never leave pets outside in this heat and keep them off the hot pavement.” 

Temperatures are expected in the upper 80s Wednesday in mid to high 90s on Thursday and Friday, the National Weather Service said.

The following facilities will operate as cooling centers for Huntington residents for the duration of the heat wave:

DIX HILLS PARK 

Dix Hills Pool & Lobby of Clark Gillies Arena (formerly Dix Hills Ice Rink)  

Free access to pool for duration of heat wave

Wednesday and Thursday: 12:30 PM (after Camps end) to 8:00 PM
