Huntington Honors Veterans at Town Hall Ceremony

Huntington honored its veterans at a ceremony Sunday that featured a performance by a young Broaway star and a somber program that included the laying of a wreath.

Makayla Connolly, star of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre in New York City, sang the National Anthem and God Bless America at the ceremony at Veterans Plaza, Town Hall.

Town officials participating included Supervisor Chad Lupinacci, Town Council members Mark Cuthbertson, Joan Cergol and Ed Smyth, Town Clerk Andrew Raia and Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman, as well as numerous veteran and firefighter organizations.

The ceremony was in recognition of Veterans Day, which, unlike Memorial Day, is designated to honor all veterans of all wars. It was originally known as Armistice Day, to commemorate the end of World War I.
