Huntington Inauguration Postponed by Covid-19 Concerns

The Town of Huntington will postpone the Sunday inauguration for new Town Board members because of the Covid-19 epidemic.
Town Clerk Andrew Raia will swear in Ed Smyth as supervisor, Dr. David Bennardo and Sal Ferro as new councilmen and Andre Sorrentino as highway superintendent  by 11:59 p.m. on Friday.

The Town Board meeting scheduled for Jan.4 will still go on as planned.

“The Inauguration is ceremonial in nature while Town Board meetings are an essential function of government,” Smyth said. “We are taking all necessary precautions to keep government running efficiently and safely and we will make a determination regarding the Inaugural ceremony when all members of the community will be comfortable participating.”

Covid-19 precautions including temperature checks, will be in place for the Jan.4 Town Hall meeting. Masks are required to enter Town Hall and throughout the meeting.

The inauguration ceremony was originally scheduled for Sunday at Walt Whitman High School.

The meeting will shown live on Optimum 18, FIOS 38 and online at https://www.huntingtonny.gov/meetings.
