Four Town of Huntington officials were officially sworn into office Monday night in a ceremony attended by family, friends and other elected colleagues.
The ceremony was emceed by State Sen. John Flanagan, R-Northport, on the stage at Huntington High School.
Town Board members Eugene Cook and Joan Cergol were sworn in after their re-election in November. Cook is starting his third term; Cergol is starting her first full term.
Also taking the oath were Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman for her first full term, and former State Assemblyman Andrew Raia officially became town clerk, the job previously held by his mother, Jo-Ann Raia, who retired last week after 38 years on the job.
Suffolk County Legislators Susan Berland and Tom Donnelly attended, as did State Assemblyman Steve Stern while clergy representing the Jewish, Muslim and Christian faiths led prayers. The Huntington High School string quartet ensemble and the school brass ensemble performed before the ceremony began, while the Huntington Men’s Chorus sang; several veterans’ organizations presented the colors.
